Art as a Bridge: Ilhan Kyuchuk Opens the Exhibition “Journey to Hope” at the European Parliament

Yesterday, the European Parliament hosted the official opening of the 9th International Exhibition “Journey to Hope.” The exhibition’s host, MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk, welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of art as a universal language capable of uniting people across borders, differences, and languages.

“I believe that it is precisely here—in the heart of European democracy—that art finds one of its most meaningful dimensions, because art is a universal language. It knows no borders, needs no translation, and has the power to unite us beyond our differences.”

Ilhan Kyuchyuk specifically thanked the exhibition’s curator, Rafie Karadja, for initiating this event at the European Parliament.

The exhibition was attended by H.E. Natalia Uzunova, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, who, in her remarks at the exhibition’s opening, quoted Jean Monnet: “If I had to start all over again, I would start with culture.” In her words, culture has the ability to build bridges between people, to foster mutual understanding and trust, even where differences exist. It unites through shared values, history, and creativity, and becomes the foundation for sustainable dialogue and cooperation among people. The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo.

“Journey to Hope” is yet another testament to the role of art as a means of dialogue, mutual understanding, and inspiration within the European cultural space. The exhibition presents a variety of artistic interpretations, united by the desire to express the power of hope as a driving force for overcoming challenges and as a universal experience shared by all people.
