Ilhan Kyuchyuk: The purpose of major policies is to serve the citizens

MEP Hosts Representatives from the Twinned Municipalities of Vetovo and Istanbul’s Avcılar

A delegation from Bulgaria, led by the Mayor of Vetovo Municipality, Dr. Mehmed Mehmed, is on a three-day visit to Brussels at the invitation of MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk. In the Belgian capital, the Mayor of Vetovo met with his counterpart from the twinned Istanbul municipality of Avcılar, Attorney Turan Hançerli.

Following the signing of a cooperation and twinning agreement in March of last year between the municipalities of Vetovo and Avcılar, the two mayors met today in Brussels at the invitation of Ilhan Kyuchyuk. During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of joint European projects, upcoming collaborative initiatives, and cooperation in the fields of education and tourism.

The delegation, led by Vetovo Mayor Dr. Mehmed Mehmed, included Alizan Yahova, Member of Parliament from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Nermin Kyazimova, Deputy Mayor of Vetovo Municipality, Zekeriya Pandzharov, PR Manager, Yuzlem Lyutfieva, Director of APIA Directorate, and Yusein Yuseinov, Chief Expert on European Affairs.

“The essence of major policies, ultimately, is to work for the benefit of the citizens because it’s about being close to the people and their problems. We face the need to view everything horizontally – simultaneously from a European, national, and local perspective,” said MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Renew Europe Group in the Committee of the Regions.

For his part, Seán Ó Curnáin welcomed the delegation from Bulgaria with the words: “This is the home of the Committee of the Regions, this is your home.”

During the meeting, the cooperation between European institutions and local government representatives was discussed, emphasizing the potential of local and regional authorities to transform the face of Europe. The delegates were also introduced to the work of the institution and the leadership of the Renew Europe Group and the Committee of the Regions.
