The free movement of workers is a fundamental principle of the Treaty enshrined in Article 45 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. In order to help workers to effectively exercise that right – to look for a job and to work in another EU country, enjoying the same treatment as the country´s nationals in terms of access to employment, working conditions and social benefits – we need to reinvigorate and adjust EURES. This cooperation network for labour mobility clearly showed some shortcomings such as limited support services and information exchange, as well as not sufficient cooperation and lack of transparency in labour markets. In this regard, I find essential the incorporation into the network of effective public and private employment services. It is important to widen to scope of information which is available on the portal, ensuring that all jobseekers can obtain comprehensive information about the existing vacancies and all related employment conditions. On the other hand the portal should facilitate the automated matching of job vacancies and CVs, which will allow employers to quickly find and recruit workers who have the right skills and qualifications. Reinvigorating EURES will be highly beneficial for the reduction of the unemployment rates and will contribute to a more integrated Union labour market.
