The leader of the European Liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, met today with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. On International Women’s Day, the two leaders discussed promoting gender equality, political and business representation.
The MEP from DPS congratulated Roberta Metsola on the occasion and expressed his agreement that equality between women and men in the labor market, in economic independence, decision-making processes, and the fight against gender-based violence, are priorities that should be broadly agreed upon.
“Ensuring gender equality is a key factor in realizing the rights of all citizens and is one of the founding principles of the European Union. Achieving progress in gender equality requires coordinated actions from all institutions in partnership with businesses, civil society, and social organizations,” said Kyuchyuk during his meeting with Roberta Metsola.
For her part, Metsola was firm in stating that the European Parliament has always been a strong advocate of the principle of gender equality. Both leaders agreed that gender equality is an important issue that needs to be addressed much more actively, both within political parties at the national and European levels, and in European institutions.
