“The integration of the Balkans into the European Union is not merely a political topic, but a long-term cause underpinned by vision, commitment, and trust.” This was stated by Member of the European Parliament Ilhan Kyuchyuk, host of the Western Balkans Forum 2026: A New Chapter for Europe, held in Brussels.
Kyuchyuk подчеркed that the discussions and the participation of representatives of European institutions, diplomats, and experts clearly demonstrate that EU enlargement towards the Balkans remains a strategic priority for the Union.
“I am even more convinced that the future of Europe runs through the Balkans. Enlargement is not solely a matter of geography or timelines, but of shared values, democratic standards, and a common European future,” he said.
The MEP recalled his long-standing commitment to advancing the European perspective of the region, including the EU Meets the Balkans forum—an initiative that for several years has brought together European Commissioners, foreign ministers, diplomats, and leading experts in Sofia. The initiative continues today as a platform for dialogue, trust, and concrete policies in support of enlargement.
The event in Brussels featured prominent representatives of liberal political families, the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice and the Rule of Law, Michael McGrath, as well as Members of the European Parliament and policy experts.
Ilhan Kyuchyuk expressed his gratitude to all key partners and participants in the Brussels forum and reaffirmed that the integration of the Balkans into the European Union remains among the core political priorities.
