Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs and representatives of the Court of Justice of the European Union held their third annual dialogue on the implementation of the 2024 reform of the Court’s Statute. The meeting took place in Luxembourg and focused on the first full year of the reform’s implementation.
During the discussions, members of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) and representatives of the Court of Justice of the EU discussed measures to increase transparency and improve workload management. Among the key elements of the reform, the transfer of certain preliminary rulings to the General Court, as well as the expansion of the mechanism for filtering appeals against its decisions, were highlighted.
Participants also exchanged views on other topics of common interest, including judicial dialogue between the Court of Justice of the EU and national courts, as well as current case law on privileges and immunities.
Ilhan Kyuchuk (Renew Europe, Bulgaria), Chair of the Committee on Legal Affairs, emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating that it provided a timely opportunity to take stock of the reform and to engage in an in-depth dialogue on the development of case law and the strengthening of cooperation between European and national courts.
This dialogue is the third in a row since the formalization of cooperation between the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Court of Justice of the EU within the framework of the reform of the Statute, and reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to openness, efficiency, and the rule of law in the European Union.
