The Movement for rights and freedoms/Renew Europe MEP Ilhan Kyuchuk was awarded with the Honorary Order of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Centenary Medal). The official ceremony was held in Brussels on November 12, 2019. The jubilee medal, awarded on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijani diplomacy was handed to the Bulgarian MEP by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Brussels H.E. Fuad
Isgandarov. The Ambassador rewarded Kyuchuk for the active work in promoting and developing the bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Bulgaria.
“Azerbaijan is an important ally, which over the years established itself as a strategic energy partner of the EU. The political relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan are excellent and are backed by high level political dialogue. The country is the main foreign trade partner of Bulgaria and the EU in the South Caucasus region. However, the current levels of trade turnover reflects neither the potential of our economic cooperation nor the strategic and friendly nature of our bilateral political relations. We have the potential to cooperate in many areas, such as tourism, agriculture, education and culture, and I will continue to work in this direction”, Kyuchyuk said during the ceremony.
During the past years, Ilhan Kyuchuk has been working for omprehensively improving and strengthening the EU-Azerbaijan relations as a member of the Friends of Azerbaijan group in the European Parliament. In 2015, Kyuchuk hosted an event in the European Parliament presenting the first European Games to be held later that year in the country. In the spring of 2019 he was awarded as well the Honorary Order of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Milli Mejlis) for his active involvement in the development of bilateral relations between the Parliament of Azerbaijan and the European Parliament.
