Ilhan Kyuchyuk from Skopje: Both countries can be an example in the Balkans of a partnership on European standards

MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk took part in the Civic Contribution for Confidence, Unity and Union conference, co-hosted with Renew Europe and the American University in Skopje. The event was opened by Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and Permanent Rapporteur on North Macedonia Ilhan Kyuchyuk. The conference was attended by representatives of local authorities and civil society from Macedonia and Bulgaria.

“I believe that we must dedicate ourselves with all our might and work tirelessly to realize this idea, because our citizens deserve it. I welcome the resumption of dialogue over the last two weeks and hope that after more than a year and a half of pause, the intergovernmental talks will finally lead to concrete results, “said Ilhan Kyuchyuk, the rapporteur on North Macedonia.

“I hope that the new government of Bulgaria and this one, led by Kovacevski, continue on the path of opening opportunities for better cooperation. From my own experience, I can conclude that the only problem is that we do not know each other. The misunderstanding comes from there and good examples should be given. This is the case with the agreement between MIA and BTA, because through the constant exchange of information people will know more about themselves and this misunderstanding will be overcome, “said Ilhan Kyuchyuk.

The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, expressed hope for better relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria. According to him, citizens and the educational and academic spheres have a great contribution to the process.

“I have no doubt that we have taken a big step towards progress, we have responded to a friendly dialogue. We are building a policy of building bridges, not walls between our countries and peoples. We agreed to work together against hate speech and discrimination. I am confident that the academic spheres and civil communities will give a strong response in society, “said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski.
