Ilhan Kyuchyuk visits Gibraltar on fact finding mission

Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk met with Deputy Chief Minister Dr Richard Garcia on December 19.

The MEP is in Gibraltar on a fact-finding visit concerning a number of issues relating to the potential withdrawal of the United Kingdom and Gibraltar from the European Union.

He also met with the Minister for Education Dr John Cortes, at the University of Gibraltar and with the Minister for Culture Steven Linares and all explained to him the wishes of the people of Gibraltar as expressed in the June 23 referendum vote.

“Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. At its foot is a densely populated city area, home to over 30,000 Gibraltarians and other nationalities. 12 000 foreign workers are employed there – 72 of them are Bulgarians. Together with their University`s Chancellor we talked about some possibilities for partnership with their future colleagues.

I met with the leader of the Moroccan community. Gibraltar is an example of ethnic and religious tolerance. Moreover church and mosque are located opposite each other, and midway between them is the University”, Ilhan Kyuchyuk said.
