The leader of the European Liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, is in Munich for the 59th Munich Security Conference. The MEP from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) is one of the few Bulgarian politicians participating in the most important diplomatic forum.
Ilhan Kyuchyuk took part in two discussions related to Russian influence in the Balkans and the region’s future, as well as in a panel on the topic: “Ukraine, the architecture of Europe’s security, the EU’s Strategic Compass, and NATO’s new strategic concept.”
“ALDE supports the right of every sovereign state to take its own security measures, which is why we fully support Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO membership. This will enhance the security and stability of all of Europe. Europe will support the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary, and if needed, we will increase our support because stability in the Euro-Atlantic area now depends on the security of Ukraine,” emphasized Kyuchyuk.
During the day, the MEP also met with Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the security of the European continent.
In Munich, Kyuchyuk held meetings with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, North Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, and several foreign ministers.
At the forum in the Bavarian capital, measures were discussed in the context of the complicated security environment resulting from the war in Ukraine, as well as other current security challenges.
The annual Munich Security Conference is attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, and world leaders, including U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Munich Security Conference provides an important opportunity for communication on global and regional issues between various representatives of the political elite worldwide.
