Co-president of ALDE Party Ilhan Kyuchyuk talked today with President of the European People’s Party Donald Tusk
During the meeting, the two discussed the challenges facing Europe and the Union as a whole, as well as the possibilities for tackling them.
“The pro-European parties should unite to bring Europe out of the many challenges it faces.”, Kyuchyuk said during the meeting.
According to the chairman of the European People’s Party, Donald Tusk, with unity and joint efforts correct tools the EU has full potential to tackle the pandemic and the upcoming new wave. They discussed increasing populism in politics, illiberal governance in some European countries as well as the successful implementation of Recovery plan for Europe.
During the meeting, Tusk and Kyuchyuk, also discussed the topic related to the upcoming migration pressures due to the difficult situation in Afghanistan.
Donald Tusk was an activist in the underground Solidarity movement against the Communist regime. In 2014, Donald Tusk was elected to the position of President of the European Council and in 2017 re-elected for the second mandate. In 2007 became Prime Minister. He was in office for seven years, which made him the longest-serving Prime Minister in democratic Poland, and since the end of 2019 he has been president of the European People’s Party (EPP).
