Ilhan Kyuchyuk: The EU prospects thanks to dialogue and compromises

MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk Hosts a Visitor Group from Bulgaria at the European Parliament

The visitor group included students and academic leaders from across the country, pupils from the Spiritual School in Momchilgrad, and students from the “Alexander Stepanovich Popov” Professional High School of Electronics in Veliko Tarnovo. The visit was a reward for the top three students who won the essay competition on the topic: “How does the EU work? EU institutions and we.”

During the visit, the guests had the opportunity to closely observe the functioning of the European Parliament and attend a lecture by Ilhan Kyuchyuk. The leader of the Liberals discussed political developments in Europe and Bulgaria.

While sharing details about his work and responsibilities as a Member of the European Parliament, Kyuchyuk highlighted the ongoing processes in the EU following the series of challenges in recent years.

“In the first years after I came, there was little talk about the role of the EU. But after the recent crises, such as the pandemic and the war, the question of EU leadership and influence on the global stage has become more pressing. And if we once asked whether each member state could save itself individually, after the COVID crisis and the war, we have clearly realized that this is not the solution. The EU is an ambitious, dynamic, and changing union, and it must be this way to ensure prosperity. But the strength of the EU lies in working together within the 27 member states,” Kyuchyuk said.

Addressing the visitor group, Kyuchyuk emphasized that the EU is a union of competition and that it is high time for Bulgaria to stabilize and exit the political crisis in order to once again seek its place at the table of major discussions in Europe.
