The honorary academic title was awarded for his significant contribution to the development of educational cooperation and the promotion of European values in higher education.

The leader of the European Liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, was awarded the honorary title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the University of Telecommunications and Post today.

“The path to building bridges between us as a nation goes through education and the good example set by the university. Education goes far beyond national borders, it creates and builds leaders. VUTP is an example of successful interaction and partnership between business and education. I believe in the success of education because, as Nelson Mandela said, ‘Education can change the world.’ Only educated nations know where to lead their societies, so let’s invest in an enlightened nation and together make Bulgaria a country with high added value,” Kyuchyuk said.

The MEP emphasized that the notion of Bulgaria as a small country, with Europe being distant, is unacceptable.

“Today, in a society where divides are becoming more entrenched and in the face of all the challenges to democracy, the embodiment of strong leadership is seeking compromises and dialogue. We cannot continue doing politics the way we have so far, primarily to be responsible to ourselves. I do not want Bulgarian citizens to be stigmatized. Bulgaria’s place is among those countries that make decisions. Bulgaria has its chances and, with the skilled personnel it has, there are vast opportunities. It is time to turn all of this into a chance for our country,” Kyuchyuk added.

The ceremony was attended by numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps, the academic community, members of parliament, and students.
