Ilhan Kyuchyuk to Young People: The EU is a Competitive Environment with Opportunities We Should Not Miss

The seminar brought together hundreds of young people from across the country.

The leader of the European liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, gave advice to young people in the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) on involving youth in politics and their perception of the EU. Young people from all over the country participated in the seminar “Young People and the Future of Europe,” which was held over the weekend in Stara Zagora. The forum was organized with the support of the MEP. Special participation in the seminar was taken by the Chairman of DPS, Mustafa Karadayı, and the party’s Deputy Chairman, Halil Letifov.

“Europe meets the expectations of young people and provides opportunities for the exchange of ideas, education, and career development. Bulgarian citizens have high expectations from the EU, but the most important thing is to make it clear that European citizenship is a continuation of national citizenship. We are in a competitive environment, and the EU is an environment full of opportunities that we must seize,” Kyuchyuk said to the young participants.

According to the MEP, during these 15 years of EU membership, Bulgaria has always waited on the sidelines, and a key moment for the development of a country is becoming part of the decision-making mechanism. He emphasized that the country’s position must be shaped in national governments and defended outside its borders.

“In the EU, unity in solving every crisis is crucial, and Europe will stand strong if it forms coalitions with democratic countries. Political unity must be guaranteed. The idea of Europe is not lost, but it only makes sense if it is discussed continuously in political debates. To get the most out of the EU, every young person should know what the EU offers them. We need to find a new meaning for the existence of the EU. We compete within a space in which we must be competitive,” Kyuchyuk commented in response to a question from the audience.

During the forum, panelists discussed topics with the audience such as Schengen, adopting the euro in Bulgaria, the energy crisis, the Green Deal, the migration crisis, and the EU’s geopolitical stance.

Other participants in the panels included the Mayor of Belitsa Municipality, Radoslav Revenski, Members of Parliament Sezgin Mehmed, Erten Anisova, Andzhey Djandev, Nebiye Kabak, Osman Murdov, and others.
