Ilhan Kyuchyuk talks with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and declares support for the country’s sovereignty

“Ukraine is an independent state and we must oppose any attempt to encroach on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Ilhan Kyuchyuk, MEP and ALDE co-president, in a telephone conversation with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanyshina. They both discussed the situation in the region.

Кyuchyuk is adamant that European partners will support Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO.

“Democracy, freedom and equality are a civilizational choice, and if Ukraine wants to become a member of NATO and the EU, we must support its efforts. “Diplomacy is the best solution to deal with the situation, so we must all work to de-escalate tensions,” Kyuchyuk said.

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna has expressed concern over the concentration of troops along the border. According to her, Ukraine expects NATO and the EU to give their support.

“I count on your support in this difficult time for Ukraine,” Stefanishyna said.

Kyuchyuk assured the Deputy Prime Minister that the NATO and EU partners would work together to de-escalate tensions.
