MRF MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk asks Prime Minister Kiril Petkov

Question to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Kiril Petkov about the funds received from the media in the country over the past 10 years to promote the Operational Programs and the Rural Development Program of the EU, filed today in the office of the Council of Ministers.

The question covers the period from January 2011 to December 2021 inclusive. Kyuchyuk insists that the information available in the administration of the Council of Ministers on all contracts concluded with media service providers in Bulgaria by the primary and secondary spending units with EU and EU funds be provided to the Council of Ministers. It also requests information on whether the contracts were concluded by direct negotiation or under the Public Procurement Act (PPA). As well as whether among the criteria for their conclusion was a requirement that the relevant media have submitted declarations and appear in the register maintained by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria under the Law on Mandatory Deposit of Printed and Other Works and Announcement of Media Distributors and Providers.

“I followed with interest some of the statements of the Prime Minister Mr. Kiril Petkov and I want, as a Bulgarian MEP, to support his activities in his fight against corruption. I liked his words in the Bulgarian National Assembly that “there will be no more of yours, there will be no more of ours”, said Ilhan Kyuchyuk.

“We will keep asking. We will insist on hearing the answers to the important questions. Because the freedom of the media is of utmost importance for the existence of a democracy “, the MEP was categorical. “The sooner the truth is understood, the sooner the speculations that cause severe image damage to Bulgaria in the European institutions will end. I do not want the issue of media freedom to be central again in the next rule of law report. I do not want to have a number of recommendations that make us make legislation that covers the media market. There is such legislation and we do not accept the argument that it does not work. If it does not work, there are mechanisms to change it, and at the same time the commitment of the executive is to do what is necessary to comply with the process. It must commit to this so that we can have the opportunity to support the efforts of Kiril Petkov in his declared desire to cover the Bulgarian media market, “said Kyuchyuk.

He expressed hope that the prime minister and his administration, who came to power with the request for transparency in governance and the crackdown on all corruption schemes in the country, will answer his question quickly and comprehensively.
