Kyuchyuk to Osmani: Finding a European approach is the best way to resolve controversial issues

According to the MEP, the efforts made in recent months will enable a common future for the two countries in the EU

ALDE Co-Chair Ilhan Kyuchyuk and EP Permanent Rapporteur on the Republic of North Macedonia held a working meeting with Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, who is on a working visit to Brussels, during which he attended a meeting of the AFET Foreign Affairs Committee.

Kyuchyuk addressed the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia:

“I congratulate the Government of North Macedonia on its constructive role in NATO. The country has demonstrated its Euro-Atlantic commitment to support Ukraine and its readiness to accept refugees. North Macedonia has performed well in a number of areas, underwent fundamental changes and has tangible and sustainable results in key areas such as the fight against corruption and organized crime by implementing stable and inclusive democratic reforms and by taking important steps to strengthen democracy and the rule of law. the law. I believe that the government of Prime Minister Kovacevski has the potential and a good legacy from the previous government and will continue on the path of European integration of North Macedonia.”

Kyuchyuk stressed the positive progress in relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria. According to him, the two countries must use the opportunities they have and make efforts to resolve outstanding issues that will enable a common future in the EU.

“North Macedonia and Bulgaria have started a new process of relations, the results of which I hope to see very soon. The idea that the existing disputes between the two countries should not be left aside, but move forward through education, culture and economy is not a bad thing at all, and I believe that North Macedonia and Bulgaria should use this window of opportunity. The positive narrative is obvious and we saw it at the joint celebration of Gotse Delchev in February. However, in these turbulent times and exactly 30 years of the Masstricht Treaty, it is time to think about the current challenges and the future direction of European integration. “Now more than ever, the crisis in Ukraine reminds us that the European Union needs more unity and that EU enlargement is the best antidote to war,” Kyuchyuk said.

Later, Kyuchyuk and Osmani took part in a meeting with the Friends of North Macedonia group in the EP.
