The 40th Congress of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, under the slogan “Mission is possible. The Renaissance of European Liberalism” was held between October 24-26, at the Greek capital – Athens. The event brought together nearly 1000 delegates who held in-depth discussions on topics of major importance for Europe’s future, including environmental protection, Europe’s role on the global stage and safeguarding the rule of law.

During the Congress, a new leadership of the ALDE party was elected. After the re-election of the president Hans van Baalen, an election of six vice-presidents took place, during which the MRF/Renew Europe MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk received the overwhelming support of 84% of the votes, placing him first among the candidates.

“The support I received was first and foremost an international recognition for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. Over the years, we have established ourselves as the most pro-European and liberal parties in Bulgaria, but also in Central and Eastern Europe. Through our work in the European Parliament and at the liberal institutions, we have proven that we are a systematic and predictable partner that can be trusted. Therefore, at the upcoming local elections in Bulgaria tomorrow, people must make their informed choice on values. Whether to support politicians with clear development programs and European legitimation, or to rely on the widespread populism without clear purpose and direction” Kyuchyuk said.

At the yearly Congress in Athens, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms was presented by a delegation consisting of Ilhan Kyuchyuk – Vice-president of the ALDE party and Head of the MRF delegation at the Renew Europe group at the EP, Iskra Mihaylova – Vice-president of the Renew Europe group, MEP Atidzhe Alieva-Veli and Birshen Ibryamova, Executive director of the “Liberal integration” foundation.
