“Turkey and Syria have suffered significant damage from earthquakes throughout their history, but the earthquake on February 6th was the largest recorded in Turkey in the last century. Humanitarian aid is urgently needed for the affected areas, and it must be delivered immediately to provide support in the search for survivors under the rubble and to restore basic infrastructure in the affected regions. All of us who are part of the European Union must fulfill our historical responsibility and increase our support for the victims of this devastating disaster. Therefore, as members of the European Parliament, we are ready to support all joint efforts for this purpose,” the letter addressed to the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council states.
The letter has been sent to all MEPs in an effort to gather maximum support.
