Ilhan Kyuchyuk to the students of VTU: EU cannot solve our problems if we as a country are passive

The MEP awarded the university with the “Simone Veil” prize for multicultural education and tolerance.

The leader of the European Liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, was a guest lecturer today at the Veliko Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius,” where he delivered a lecture on the topic “Quo Vadis, Europa?” (translated – Where are you going, Europe?) to students and faculty.

Kyuchyuk focused on the future of Europe and Bulgaria’s positioning within the EU.

“The passivity of our country is a chronic problem when it comes to positioning Bulgaria in the EU. Decisions are being made, formally, we have the right to influence these decisions, but the relative weight of Bulgaria is not significant. Anyone who wants to negotiate seeks a partner who is not temporary, but regular. It will not be a prime minister for three months, but with a four-year horizon, because politics is not built in a few weeks, but with long-term goals. Political instability in Bulgaria is the main reason we are currently on the periphery of the Union. The EU cannot solve all our problems if we, as a country, are passive,” said Kyuchyuk to the students.

Kyuchyuk was adamant that the idea of the EU imposing its agenda on Bulgaria is absolutely false. According to him, the EU offers horizons and opportunities for development and strives to function collectively as one family.

In the concluding part of his lecture, Kyuchyuk advised students to strive for success, which inevitably requires hard work and perseverance.

Earlier today, the MEP awarded Veliko Tarnovo University with the “Simone Veil” prize for multicultural education and tolerance. The university in Veliko Tarnovo became the first higher education institution to receive the award.
